WHEN I ACCEPTED THAT THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON, IT BECAME EASIER TO LOOK AT MY DISAPPOINTMENTS JUST AS SOMETHING I AM GOING TO NEED IN MY FUTURE.

What 'reason' did it happen? Can you know the 'reason'? It seems to me if things happen for 'a reason' it would imply there is some thing/person who is guiding/leading/directing. Who/What is that?

As a possible answer to Injgoza's query, it's true that the word "reason" implies that there is a "person" guiding things, as reason has to do with the mind.

On the other hand, "reason" might be replaced by the word "cause," in which case an actual person's brain might not be necessary. For example, in the Universe there is balance in all things. The reason or cause of a disappointment, failure, or anything else could be part of maintaining that balance.

Needless to say, I acknowledge that most of these things are unknowable. Still, it's fun to speculate!
